Happy Halloween!

We had a fun and busy Halloween season this year. As is our three year running tradition, my kids were sick the entire week. Carter was home from school M-Th and Makenna stayed home Friday. They have nothing more than fevers and a bit of a cough but with all the hysteria with the flu this year, I decided to keep them home the requisite 24 hours after the fever was gone. We were a little bit stir crazy (ok, we were a lot stir crazy) but we did get in a lot of Halloween crafting and baking during the week. I won't recap it all in pictures but we made and played with pumpkin pie playdoh (smells amazing), decorated cupcakes, make lots of pumkin-y treats, carved our pumpkins and decorated our spooky gingerbread house. It was fun to have a lot of downtime together this week.

Our carved pumpkins (the left one is supposed to be Yoda):

Friday Carter was able to go back to school. The schools have a no costume rule here (BOOO!!!) but they did have a fun pajama/crazy hair day at the school. I was able to go for the parade and help with the breakfast/party afterwards. Carter loved wearing his skeleton pjs to school!
Friday night was our ward Trunk or Treat and Halloween dance. The kids were so excited to dress up.

Carter as Harry Potter (who else?):
Allen's sister Laurie Jane knitted the Griffyndor scarf for Carter and it was the favorite part of the costume.

Kenna and Addie as Candy Corn princesses:

Kenna showing off the wand and matching treat bags I made for them:

(you can see Carter's HP bag in his picture - they turned out so cute and were cheap and easy - I see a new tradition here)

I wish I had gotten a better picture of the two of them together but Addie would not cooperate (tried both nights) and Kenna just did not feel very well. Their costumes were a HUGE hit though and we got compliments on them everywhere we went.

At the trunk or treat dance:

It was SO nice to have Halloween on Saturday this year. We were able to spend time together and we had a nice, traditional Halloween dinner (mummy dogs, dinner in a pumpkin, pumpkin dip with apples and gingersnaps, and goblin juice) and did not feel one bit rushed. The kids had a great time ToT our neighborhood and for once I actually ran out of candy!'

The loot:

Hope you had a wonderful and safe Halloween season. My kids are finally on the mend (crossing fingers that Addie doesn't get it) and I'm looking forward to getting back into my normal routine this week!

I agree! Your costumes were awesome! And how cool that the scarf is REAL!! I think if I got to do all those fun things I would make it a habit of being sick that week too. In fact, can I join the fun next year??? You are awesome!!

Your kids look so dang cute. Carter is the perfect HP, and OMG the girls costumes are so cute! I love all the matching accessories, too. You are so talented!

Why doesn't the school let the kids wear their costumes?

Sorry about the week of sickness, but it sounds like you had a great week in spite of it!

I can't say enough about the costumes. I love Carter as HP, and your Candy Corn Fairies are TDF!! All that tulle, the wands, the treat bags! I'm in love!

Now I get it. I couldn't picture the candy corn costumes as tutus. Seeing is understanding! As usual, all the of the munchkins looked lucious. And so much candy. There's a reason that moms should hide it and spread it out over a period of time. Sugar highs are not so good. Congratulations on having Albuquerque's cutest TOTers.

Your costumes are adorable! Did you make the girls' skirts? Is Carter's class really that small?

Look like lots of fun and super cute! I can't believe how few kids are in Carter's class. Is he in public school? Jackson has 23 in his and Delaney has 17 and I thought those were pretty good.

Fabulous all the way around! Nicely done. Love C as HP, and the girls are so perfect I could eat them! Hope everyone is on the mend - it's been a rough fall thus far.

did Carter try to cast any spells? :)

too too too too cute. Love it all -- so much more fun than our BORING ballerinas here. I ALMOST showed A&B, but then realized that they'd be begging me to copy your costumes and make it for next year and don't think I'm that crazy! You did amazing.

oh my gosh Monique--you are always outdoing yourself. Sigh. The costumes are amazing. All the tulle in those fun colors make me swoon. And that HP scarf is like the perfect touch. I want one!!!

Looks like a great time! You are so creative. I loved all the costumes and Carter definately looks like Harry Potter. Our ward doesn't do Halloween, our bishop isn't a fan. (Boo) so I live through others who have ward parties! :-) (otherwise we have a fabulous ward!) Hope you all stay healthy and well!
