No, this is not a decorating or home tour post. I wish it was but that is a long way off. We have made lots of progress unpacking and getting our house together but there is still lots to do. Most of the major unpacking is done but I am still finding "homes" for everything and that takes awhile. So this is the sad, realistic look at my house TODAY.
Little piles of stuff everywhere:
This is what I mean by things needing a home. This is the top of Allen's dresser. Decorations that need to be put away, receipts waiting to be entered into our budgeting software, electronics stuff, etc. I'm not a pile person so this is especially painful.LOTS of donation boxes:
As we are unpacking we are finding LOTS to donate. I have 5 full boxes this size ready to be dropped off and I'm not done yet. I spent a lot of last year dejunking but there was obviously still lots more to get rid of. I also have a ton of stuff to sell on craigslist - mostly furniture - and that will free up lots of space in the garage.
Perfectly organized closets:
This is the part of moving that I love. Every closet is in great shape at the SAME time. It is glorious for an organization freak like myself.
Empty organization containers waiting for a use:
My kitchen is laid out way differently than my last house so I'm finding I don't need nearly as many baskets and containers for organization. I'm sure eventually they'll all be used for something but I'm surprised at how few I've needed here.
PILES of boxes:
This part is killing me. I feel like it makes my house look so junky. This huge stack is sitting on my dining room table. And this is after someone in our ward came and picked up about half of our boxes. We just need to finish our garage and then we can call the moving company to come pick them up. This is when having no basement is especially painful. Nowhere to stow all the eyesores.
So that's where we are in the process. Nothing glamorous happening here yet. Only 2 rooms have anything hung on the walls and I've got a list of projects to do that is approximately a mile long! I'm planning on taking care of the piles and the garage this week before we head out of town for my family reunion. I could be further along in the process but I've spent lots of time with my kids and lots of time cooking! I'm so happy to be in a regular routine again after trying to eat through our freezer for the past few months, having Allen gone and living on the road/eating out a ton. Making dinner is not usually my favorite thing but I've been loving it the past few weeks!

This all looks horribly familiar!!!! We've been in the house two weeks and although we're functioning I'm stil moving things around and reorganizing! We've had non stop company and things happening.... And I just want life to get back in a routine! And, I would live all my rooms to be magically painted. Is that too much to ask?
Slow but steady - you're going to have the house set up and set up beautifully in no time - the process isn't always glamorous, but I know your end result is going to be model-home material!
It's looking great - you'll get there! It's nice to do it right, organized and cleaned out. I'm sure it will be up to your standards before long. I can't wait to see your magic touch in the after photos. :)
Unpacking things is the hardest part, but the most fun, too. It's like opening Christmas presents and trying to figure out where each item will go. Sometimes old items in a new setting make them seem new!
