Christmas Eve

We had a low key Christmas Eve. We started the morning by baking and decorating sugar cookies (yes, it seems my kiddos are in their pjs for many of the pictures I post but I promise they do wear real clothes too!)

I got smart this year and only did half of a sugar cookie recipe. My kids love to bake and decorate the cookies but no one likes to eat them so I just did half of what I normally do and it worked out perfectly. The aftermath of the cookie decorating:

Addie doesn't like sugar cookies but she loves frosting. Can you tell?

My girlies were great helpers in the kitchen. We made A LOT of food on Christmas eve and they loved being right in there helping. Here they were making peppermint freeze (new delicious recipe and sure to become a tradition every year):

As is our tradition, we had a Mexican fiesta for dinner. We had enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, chips/guacamole,  an amazing Mexican pomegranate salad, homemade flan and peppermint freeze. So yummy!

Everyone enjoying the fruits of our labors:

After dinner we had a great time putting on the nativity. Carter and Makenna were Mary and Joseph, Addie was the angel, Ems was the baby Jesus, My dad and I were shepherds, my mom and Allen were wise people and my brother was the narrator. It was so fun.
We let the kids open one present and then sent them off to bed and then had a to wait a couple hours for them to finally fall asleep before we could get ready for the next morning.
