Here we go again...

When we moved from Connecticut, we pretty much got rid of all of our baby gear. After two kids it was worn out and since money was tighter back when we had Carter, some of our stuff wasn't all that nice to begin with. So we find ourselves having to pretty much start over with the baby stuff. We have been out looking at things a couple of times and are ready to take the plunge and buy. So, I'm wondering if anyone has a Chicco carseat/stroller combo? This is the particular one we are considering. It is a fairly new product and the draw to it is that the carseat goes up to 30 lbs. instead of the standard 20 lbs. I'm not sure how necessary that is, but for an extra few bucks, it seems like a good idea. We loved it in the store. We've gone the rounds of what to get. I see the appeal of a Sit-N-Stand but after looking at a bunch they just don't seem all that practical or well made. I also LOVE higher end strollers (think Peg and more) but they don't come in travel systems. In my opinion, having a travel system for at least the first 9 months is ESSENTIAL. If you have an opinion on this topic (about Chicco or any other brand) weigh in please!
A great thing about having baby #3 is that you know what you really DON'T need this time around. I hate having baby stuff cluttering up my house. So I've decided we're only buying a swing this time (my babies have loved the swing). As we were leaving BabiesRUs tonight, we discussed how we both feel like we've waited too long between kids. We're totally out of the baby phase right now and both feel like we are in for a rude awakening once we are thrust back into middle of the night feedings and billions of diapers changes. We can't wait though!!

I'm just wondering if you'll want to be lugging around a 30lb. child in an infant car seat? But I don't know, were either of your kids pretty big? Because Charles who is almost 2 is 26lbs. and he's been out of his infant seat for over a year, he was just old enough that he wanted to sit in the bigger car seat and he was too heavy for me to carry in the infant seat. We're looking for a new infant car seat and I'd really like to have one that has the 180 degree rotating canopy for weather protection...we had this on our last car seat and I LOVED it and was constantly using it and thinking to myself, man, all car seats should have this! So there's my two cents :)

Both of my sisters have the Chicco seat. One has the system, the other has just the carseat. My sister says she loves how easy it is, but really, I just think it's cute. One has the orange, one the green. Both equally cute. My two very uneducated, unexperienced two cents . . .

I had a Chicco and I LOVED it. Just do it. Seriously. They come in and out of the base so easily and I think that was the best part. Plus the colors are awesome.

I have a double stroller from Chicco. It's been pretty good for us...been to Disneyland with it and everything and has worked out fine! :o)

Love it! I like the way it looks and it sounds more durable, because it can hold a larger baby!

Don't get me started on the "out of touch" in baby land thing, I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of all my stuff. That way I won't feel guilty for not wanting another one!(it's easier to just justify having another baby when you have all the stuff that they need and it's not big investment, but you know that already!!!)

My sister has it and raves about it! So does my mom who has helped me and both of my sisters when we had newborns, and even she raves about the Chicco stroller. I agree, though, that I'm not sure you'll want to carry a 30-pound baby in an infant seat. Isn't it crazy how much baby gear has already changed in the going on five years since we've had Carter and Connor?

I have to add: I definitely wouldn't keep a kid in this carseat until they're 30 lbs. It's just a feature of this particular model that differentiates it from their other model. My kids ARE big but usually outgrow the infant carriers lengthwise long before they would hit the 30 lb. limit. Just thought I would clarify.

not to be a bad influence - lol - but you can fit pretty much any infant carrier into most strollers, I used a Snugride in my Zippy stroller, no problem, you can make a travel system if you like a different stroller better! I've heard excellent reviews on the carseat, but I love me an expensive set of wheels when it comes to the stroller.

I have no opinion. I don't want to think about strollers until it's my turn to buy one, and then I'm going to call you up and ask you if you like whatever you have. Same with a mini-van. Currently our model of a double stroller has Avery standing on the back of the umbrella, or Avery sitting in the big stroller with Briar in her lap. Hilarious to see, but works for me!

We bought a stand and ride double stroller when we had baby #2 and I HATE it! Granted, I'm dealing with a very 'strong willed' 2 year old who will say he wants to stand and then he'll get down and run all around the store/library/wherever we are. I detest the stroller and wish I had just bought the Chicco double stroller I wanted.

That being said I have heard wonderful things about this travel system - I say go for it. If I was to do it again - I would certainly get a Chicco one!

The nice thing about having a carseat that goes up to 30 lbs is that the baby can use that carseat until they reach the 1-year mark and face forwards. You don't HAVE to carry around the baby in the carseat after they hit 30 lbs, you can use it just in your car like a regular carseat. But then you don't have to buy a convertible carseat when they hit 20 lbs and outgrow the regular infant one, since it's usually just a few months until they reach their 1st birthday. So then you can just buy a regular forward-facing carseat, which is usually a bit cheaper, and lasts longer into toddlerhood. Although you might not buy another one and just use the one Makenna's in now...or if Makenna is using Carter's old carseat then it's probably going to be more than 5 years old by the time this baby uses it and time to get another one anyways...

Ah, the joys of parenthood and making these important decisions!!!

We love our Graco-Lite stroller system. The stroller is light weight and easy to fold. Yet sturdy, I push it out at the dog park where there is no paved trail. We got it with Lillian and still use the stroller with Abby. She is now too big for the car seat portion. I agree that they get to long for the infant seat before they hit the weight limit. I have also had friends who have loved their sit and stands, so I think that just depends on what you are looking for and the age gap of your kids. The sit and stands are nice for kids that are up and down a lot. They can climb right up and stand or sit without you hauling them in and out. But you should get what you love.

Don't have a chicco, but I like the way it looks!

My girls are 3 years apart and I found it pretty easy to adjust to the new baby. Well, as easy as adjusting to not sleeping, sore boobs, and loads of diapers can be . . .

I think it looks great...if the chicco's not too expensive you can always get a maclaren (or peg)umbrella stroller when you need something smaller/lighter later on. Does it come in pink? I know you are way more practical than I am but I think the princess needs a pink carriage--especially if she's your last baby :0). Happy belated birthday too btw!

We have the Chicco car seat, and it's been great. It's easy to use with the base, and I love the easy adjusting straps. Plus, it's cute (we have the orange one). We don't have the stroller, but I'd bet that if the car seat is good, so's the stroller. I have no complaints about the car seat. You make an interesting point about spacing your kids apart...all five of us Hood kids were born in 6 1/2 years, which was fun but I also wonder how my mom didn't go insane.

We had to buy a new carseat after Ryan was four months old because he was quickly passing the 20 lb. mark. We went with a Graco snug ride I think it's called. We opted for a minimal, quick-fold stroller it drops into - one hand operation type of thing. We have a sit-n-stand from a past kid and it is a beast, and really only convenient for the big trips like to the zoo, lots of walking and off and on.

Nice thing about the Graco snug ride was the vibrating swing stand they sold for it (I swear I invented this contraption in my head before I knew it existed). It's just a stand you drop the car seat into and the car seat is then the swing as well. It vibrates too. Pretty cool.
