Let's talk Christmas music!

I need some help. Every year Al and I buy at least 2 new Christmas CDs to expand our collection (which means that we have an entire CD case just for our Christmas CDs). So this year I need some recommendations. Tell me about your favorite Christmas CD. Some of our favorites:

1. Carpenter's Christmas
2. Various random CDs from my childhood like the Partridge Family Christmas Album, Herb Alpert and Tijuana brass band, etc. (seriously, I could go on for ages on this particular list because my family has made a huge effort to get the vinyl records we grew up with transferred over to CD so we can all enjoy our old school tunes)
3. Harry Connick Jr
4. The Three Tenors (SO awesome)
5. Amy Grant
6. The Forgotten Carols
7. Various MoTab Christmas albums
8. Manheim Steamroller
9. Our kids' favorite is The Muppets Christmas carol CD (it gets pretty annoying so I have to hide it sometimes)

This year I want to add the Polar Express soundtrack to our collection. We really like all types of music so we are open to anything. Recommendations PLEASE!! (Christmas is ONLY 50 days away - hooray!!)

I think I have an old New Kids on the Block Christmas tape that I'd be more than happy to dig out and mail to you! :)

Percy Faith Christmas (Al and I grew up on that one)
Any Nat King Cole Christmas album.
Gene Autry and Rosemary Clooney.
Basically any old-time crooner has the good stuff.

Sarah Maclachlan...it's beautiful...I also love Martina McBride's (and I hate country music). I just picked up a kids lullaby one at Deseret Book over the weekend--by the same people that made that awesome primary lullaby CD. I know I have more--I will pull them out tonight.

I have a Kenny G Christmas CD that I really love. Now, I don't normally love Kenny G, but there's something about his Christmas CD - right pace, good songs choices - it's a relaxing CD that I listen to over and over. Gladys Knight has just come out with a new one too - with the Unified Voices Choir. It's sort of gospel-ish and different than the typical Christmas CD. You can listen to clips on Deseret Book if you're interested.

Monique,
You totally beat me to this!!! As I am currently listening to some of my favorite Christmas Music! I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that there just isn't enough time each year to listen to it!

Garth Brooks (I know you like country), my mom had some Readers Digest tapes many moons ago with the "Classics" on them, Charlotte Church (if you like a be grander feeling to the music), Kurt Bestor (if you don't mind he divorced his wife and left her with 2 children with disabilities, sorry went to school with the oldest daughter, but the music is still great.), John Shmidt. OK, I think I took up enough space.

Happy Listening!

We have the Gladys Knight one, with the unified choir. It is really good. We have really enjoyed the "Now that what I call Music, Christmas version." They have a ton of songs from all ages.

I'll have to dig out my Christmas CDs and check through all of them, but one of my absolutel favorites is "On Christmas Time" by an acapella group called The Coats. I had a hard time finding it when I bought it a couple of years ago, but I just looked on amazon.com and there it is: http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Time-Coats/dp/B00004WFH6/ref=sr_1_1/104-6868387-7436746?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1194292967&sr=1-1.

I bought it for their version of "Angels We Have Heard On High," but the whole thing is amazing and their version of "The Grinch" is to die for!

I'm sorry you hate the weather...is it worse than the weather in Bellevue? So far our fall has been almost dry, which you know I am totally loving. Give it a month, though, and I am sure I will be singing a different tune.

I am a fellow Christmas music lover as you know since we are sisters, my friend gave me a copy of Michael Buble Christmas CD and it's pretty great! Glad to hear that you are in a happy "Christmas" Mood today!

When I was younger my parents had the "Ray Conniff and the Ray Conniff Singers: We Wish You a Merry Christmas" album. We played it over and over and over. Total old school from the 60s. My sister bought it on CD a few years ago for everyone in our family, and it continues to be a fave. The Time-Life Treasury of Christmas also has a great collection of classic Christmas songs.

I second the Josh Groban Christmas album - SO good! I also love the SheDaisy Christmas album.

Martha Stewart's Traditional Holiday Music CD has a nice sampling.

Martina McBride's cd is very good too.

James Taylor Christmas > some song just make you want to dance with your spouse, love this one!

And the one that I just bought, Celtic Women Christmas. I prefer men's voices singing christmas songs most of the time but I absolute love these ladies' voices.

Try Diana Krall--Christmas Songs for some jazzy stuff and The Blenders--Nog.

Of course I vote for Clay! I also love Steven Curtis Chapman, The Music of Christmas.

I really like the Time Life Christmas album, volume 1. It has various classics (Bing Crosby singing Jingle Bells, Nat King Cole with Chestnuts Roasting, etc.). I also like Vienna Choir Boys. I have Hanson's Christmas album, but you don't have to get that if you don't want to (ha!).

I got it for a gift at my work Christmas party. It has Peter Breinholt, Ryan Shuppe and other Utah artsits. Really great.

My hubby grew up on "Christmas in the Stars" which is a Star Wars Christmas album. Pretty fun if you are a Star Wars fan - definitely for the kids.

Hi Monique! I could listen to Christmas music ALL year long!

Do you have the Amy Grant CD with Heirlooms on it? I know a lot of people have the one with Breath of heaven and it's great - but I grew up with the other one and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Josh Groban, Newsong, Shedaisy, Kenny G, and The Home Alone Soundtrack are a few others that are fun! Enjoy!

I'm sorry about your bad day the other day! I'm glad you were able to get out and have some alone time! I promise, you will start to like AZ weather soon. I've been in the Christmas spirit since September because that is when CT starts to feel like AZ around the holidays - and that's what I'm used to. I'm sure it's pretty weird when you are used to cold weather and snow.

See ya!

SOOOOOO, 19 comments and no one has mentioned the Chipmunks? Probably the best christmas music out there. But only one time through before it drives you insane. Personally, LOVE Bing Crosby. Also, my sister has this great one called wasatch christmas that is fun too. JJ

Josh Groban Noel, it just came out in October...you can get it for a good price at Costco. I also love the Forgotten Carols cd and the book that goes with it

Definitely Josh Groban... and I also LOVE Christmastime by Hilary Weeks. The first song on the CD is her original and it's fabulous.

A late comment:

I love "The Holly and the Ivy" song performed by pianist George Winston. It can be found on Target's annual Christmas CD, "Holiday Sounds of the Season," from the year 2000! That same CD has "Joy to the World" sung by Whitney Houston that really rocks. Winston's, "The Holly and the Ivy" can also be found on his CD, "December," which is fabulous. And then there's Trans-Siberian Orchestra playing just about anything - but best is "The Lost Christmas Eve." And on and on!
