Road Trip Kits

Since we have a rather long road trip coming up I decided to make road trip kits for the big kids. I've been wanting to do this for awhile and tackled it today. I'm so happy with how they turned out with minimal effort/money. If you wanted to, you could really go all out but I have some time/energy constraints right now.
Here's what I included:

Carter: Tic Tacs, box of animal crackers, gumballs, tic tac toe game, wooly willy magnet game (I so loved these as a kid), trivia cards, star wars coloring book, crayons, games.

Makenna: Tic Tacs, box of animal crackers, gumballs, tic tac toe game, hair do Hariet magnet game, note pad/pens, disney coloring book, crayons, games.

Along with their trinkets and treats, I made up some laminated road trip game cards. Here's a semi good closeup:

I printed up pictures of all the states' license plates and a road trip scavenger hunt. They can mark them off with a crayon and then we'll wipe them clean and start again.
All packaged up. I'm going to throw in a few dollars each for them to buy treats when we stop along the way, which I'm sure they'll love

This website has lots of fun printable road trip games and ideas: Moms Mini Van
I got the license plate pictures here: Fifty States License plates
Hopefully this will provide some distractions and fun and keep them from watching constant TV!

good luck with those, i bet my girls would blow through them in the first 30 minutes. On our trip to AZ Briar's catch phrase was 'Mommy, I need stunking (something) else. Do you have stunking else?" Umm....no? Email me when you guys are coming again....we're making all our plans for the holidays and our calendar is filling fast! We definitely want to have you over for dinner or something!

you are insane!! I can't even seem to find time to blow dry my hair. seriously, you are a.ma.zing. And gumballs? A brave woman, my kids would have chewed up gum on every surface of the car in 5 minutes. I hope this makes your trip easier though! I'm not looking forward to mine on Sunday. by myself......

Cute stuff! I always try to have a bag of tricks like these for my kids too when we travel. I usually pack a backpack for them and put in new books(from the library) and other goodies. Last year, I finally learned my lesson and only put a few things in their bag to start with. Then I would dole out the remaining goodies when they started fighting or got bored.

I love road trip kits!! Something I have found to be a big hit in our kits are pipe cleaners. You can get them for super cheap at Wal-Mart. My girls end up making some very cool things!

Have a great trip!

You look as prepared as can be for happy travels! I wanna play the license plate matching game. Good luck, hope it goes as smoothly as possible. Wish we could see you guys, but completely understand limited time with family - we juggle that too. Summer, then!

You are seriously amazing. I am totally borrowing your ideas. We are heading on a road trip. It won't be to super long, but anything to keep the kids from fighting and watching to much T.V. I love your creativity. What a super mom you are.

How FUN! Please let us know how much they loved it! I love the state license plate pictures. Of course I'd have to get Gracie to wear her glasses to play this game- but heck, me & Mike like playing the license plate game!

Have a safe trip! (or hope you HAD!)
