Today I was paying bills and noticed my Qwest bill was higher than usual. So I called Qwest to find out what was going on. The customer service agent on the phone asked me to verify my information. Then he asked if I had another updated contact number. I gave him my cell phone number. Then the following conversation ensued:
Qwest guy (QG): Do you have anything else, like a work number?
Me: Nope
QG: Oh, ok. So are you still unemployed?
Me: Not exactly, I'm a stay at home mom.
QG: Oh, that's the same thing on our records
Um, Seriously? I guess I don't really see my choice to stay at home the same as being unemployed. Unemployed makes it sound like I didn't have a choice. It was just really strange to me. Even the IRS has a box to check if you're a "housewife" (not my favorite choice of descriptions either). So hats off to all my "unemployed" friends out there!

unemployed and a lovin' it!
funny thing-- when we got our cell phone the other day a similar thing happened to me, and i wasn't happy that the man listed me as unemployed either! Hello -- does he have any idea how hard I work?
Unemployed? Seriously? They need a new PR guy at Qwest. How random is that? Like Kayla said, do they know how hard Mom's work?
Unemployed?!!! That's hilarious! What a funny man.
I wish I could collect unemployment at least.
That Qwest guy should try one day as a stay-at-home person with several young children. I'll be he'd quickly change his mind about what's real work! Don't you dare tell your children that you're unemployed. They just might think that they can get you to do their work!
Mom
Oh, that I, too, could be unemployed! But, seeing as how we would also be homeless...
Serious!?!?! Hello, did you tell him that SAHM's work 1000 times harder than any other "employed" person.
I'm with Andrea, where do I get in line for "unemplyment" checks?
