Swim Lessons: Week 1

Today we completed our first week of swim lessons for the summer. To sum it up nicely, Carter is bored out of his mind and Makenna is scared out of her wits. Actually, Carter has perfected his front crawl and spent the week learning the back stroke and diving. He is SO ready for swim team and I'm a little sad I opted out of it this year. Practicing back stroke:

Makenna has been an emotional basket case the last 3 days. It's a little ridiculous because she swims like a fish when we go to the pool but freaks out during lessons. She was especially bad today but I'm chalking it up to the fact that she was awake last night from 12:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. and was exhausted. She went to bed the second we walked in the door.Crying and begging me to let her out of the pool.
And of course my favorite poolside partner:

Since I'm not above bribing my children, I told Makenna that if she makes it through all three lessons next week without crying that I will buy her some new dressups. I'm crossing my fingers or the next 3 weeks of lessons are going to be pretty painful.

I love the 'prison(or swimming pool) bar' picture :). I need to get my kids signed up for swimming lessons but I'm afraid, not sure of what exactly...though I do have a little bit of a water phobia

Wow - that is a very nice pool, it looks like they are taking lessons at a resort! I love Makenna's swimsuit, and I hope the incentive for some new dress-ups has her smiling at her lessons next week! We start on Monday, I'm curious to see what Harrison remembers from last summer. It sounds like Carter is such a strong swimmer - that's awesome! LOVE and more LOVE cute Addison! I hope Sawyer is as content to sit with me!

Just LOOK at that little button. How darling.

It's Teresa and Nicole all over again! Teresa became a good swimmer, but was paranoid about jumping off the diving board. Nicole jumped off the edge and the diving board with total abandon even when she had not learned to swim! Why are kids so different from one another? It's the question of the century!

At least they look cute for their lessons! They are all darling, esp. in these pictures. That pool is amazing! Yay for Carter being a super swimmer, and here's hoping Makenna warms up to lessons.

That little Addison is yummy. I want to moosh her!

Your pool looks fun. Is it at someone's house? I wish I could find a set up like that here. We start swimming Monday and I think I'll be in your same situation. Only Skylar will be swimming/goofing off. And Piper will be trying to jump in. It's going to be super fun, I'm sure.

Poor Makenna. I hope the incentives work. It's so hard to know what to do about fears. My son has many.

I'm not above bribery, either. :-) Makenna may take longer to get over her fears, but I predict that once she does, you will hardly be able to get her out of the water! I'm a huge advocate of swim team--Carter will be ready next summer for sure!

A & B are like that, course I don't have B in lessons yet, but she's already starting to try to climb in and swim on her own, whereas A is just barely going under water! Thank goodness for lessons though!

Aww, that picture of Makenna just breaks my heart. But let's face it, kids need to learn to swim, especially if they live in AZ! How fun that Carter is such a little fish. That swimming pool looks divine! Cute pics of Addison too.
