Won't you Join Us?

This year Al and I have decided to forgo Christmas gifts for each other. Like many we are cutting back, and, in all honesty, there is not a single thing that we really want or need. It's frankly, quite a relief. BUT, we still wanted to do something for each other and know there are so so many in need this year.

So, instead of gifts, we are each taking an allotted amount and donating it to the charity of our choice. On Christmas morning we will reveal to the other the charity we chose and the reason we picked it. I'm so excited! There are no other restrictions except that it must go to someone (or an organization) in need.

Want to join us? I'm challenging all my friends and family to forgo one gift this year and make the difference in someone else's life instead. It feels SO good!!! I'll post sometime after Christmas and ask you to share your stories. And please, pass the idea along! *This* is the true meaning of the season!

That's a great idea!

I think I should do this with my parents and inlaws next year. They don't "need" anything either, but this would be a great way to still give.

I thought you were getting the generator? But I think this is a great idea.

Oh, I WISH I could get Rob to buy into this. What a great idea--wow!

I'm so not getting into the season this year--trying, but it's hard for some reason.

Giving more to charity is always a good thing. We are definitely going to try to be more generous this year, when there is so much need. We will be getting each other a few things - but more neccessity type gifts than fluff. Your idea is a great one - you are always a great example. Hope you had a memorable thanksgiving!

Our gift from Brian's grandmother each Christmas is a donation in our names to a charity of our choice. I love that she does this. Good idea! Will be curious to see what charities you guys pick.

We could give to needy persons almost every day at the Employment Center where we are serving our mission. So far our "givings" have been mostly advice, job help, rides home to some with no cars (one this past week to a man whose family came to Denver after Katrina), and a meal for a hospice/9-11 lung scorched NYC fireman. There is so much need it's going to be hard to pick one somebody or something. We'll let you know what we decide. 3 cheers for caring so differently. Since a little girl, Monique has had a tender place in her heart for those less fortunate!
