DOC: Days 1-3

Remember when I made this little beauty last year?
Well, this year I decided to actually use it!! We've named our advent calendar the Days of Christmas (DOC). Each day the kids pick the slip for the day and we do the planned activity. Al and I have worked long and hard on coming up with fun, easy and relatively inexpensive holiday activities for every day leading to Christmas. Here's what we've done so far.
Day 1: See a holiday movie in the theater
Since the holiday movie choices were pretty much non existent this year, we opted to see Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. It was a really cute movie and the kids had a great time. I think we would buy this one.

Day 2: Watch the First Presidency Christmas Devotional with a treat

We told the kids we would make ANY treat they wanted to eat while watching the devotional. They chose popcorn balls - HUH?!?! But that's what we did - red and green popcorn balls. They thought they were great and especially loved the music in the devotional.
Day 3: Trim the Tree

We decorated our fancy/downstairs tree last week but the kids have been dying to decorate their tree. We finally got around to it tonight for FHE. It turned out really cute with our hodge podge of ornaments. Lots of snowmen ornaments (since I collect them), their personal ornament collections (this year C chose a Spiderman ornament and M chose a hot pink sparkly butterfly - so perfect for each of them), and various ornaments from the places we have traveled to. We're finally almost completely decorated (it seems like it has taken me a long time this year).

Watch for lots of fun posts with our DOC traditions!!

This is seriously so cool. I'm going to have to write them all down so I can do this with Charlie when he is older.

Here's my confession: I saw Fred Claus on Friday and loved it. I'm not much for sappy Christmas movies (with the obvious exception of "It's a Wonderful Life") and it's the best one I've seen in a long time. Granted, the pace of the film may be a bit long for Carter and Makenna...it's more a film geared to adults as far as the dialogue goes, but it's not a dirty or crude movie.

Can I take any credit for the genes that helped create such amazingly beautiful children?

Carter and Kenna are certainly cute, charming, and cherished.

Love,

You should definitely post a picture of your "fancy" tree--I'd love to see it!
