First Day of School!!

Well, we all survived the first day of school! Both of the kids did well. Carter was a little bit emotional but did ok once he realized I was able to walk with him into his classroom and help him get settled there. I had to work hard to maintain my composure because I knew if I lost it, he would too. For sure, the hardest part for me was watching Carter and Makenna say goodbye to each other. Makenna sat with her arm around him for about 10 minutes in the classroom before the parents were dismissed. Then she kissed him on the head and said goodbye.

We had about an hour between Carter's drop off and Makenna's so we went home and that's when I cried! It seemed so quiet without Carter around. Makenna did awesome on her drop off and didn't even notice when I left. I'm so glad that a friend planned a first day of school bfast for all our friends so I was distracted for a good 3 hours and had no time to feel sad!

After school when I picked Carter up he looked so tired. I asked him how his first day was and he said, "Mom, it was so exhausting." Poor guy. I think full day Kindy is a bit much (but mandatory in AZ). He wasn't quite as excited to bound out of bed this morning!!

After school we made caramel apples for a first day of school treat. I had seen these mini caramel apples on the Martha Steward website a few months ago and then Family Fun had them in this months issue too! I thought they would be fun to try!

We give them 2 out of 5 stars. The caramel slides right off of them! I guess that is why FF used melted butterscotch chips. They were much easier to eat than regular caramel apples though!

(PS, I'm sick as a dog and went to bed at 8 last night after taking TWO naps yesterday! So I have lots of blog catching up to do!)

I had to go back and read the post that you had decided to put him in Kindergarten, after all! (I guess I'd missed that one). Sounds like it all worked out for the best and that he had a great first day! That is a sweet picture of Makenna and Carter hugging at school! :o)

doesn't it feel too early and hot for caramel apples? My girls snarfed them though, they didn't seem to mind. Now that you've survived the first day the others will just seem to fly by. This is Avery's 6th week of school already!

One first day of school down, a LOT more to go! That is so cute how Makenna gave him a kiss before she left. Sweet!

Full-day kindy is a big adjustment, but be glad it is mandatory for all kids in AZ. Here, you have to pay for it, and the kids who only do 1/2-day are seriously behind in 1st grade.

I hope you are feeling better SOON! Life somehow doesn't seem to slow down when Mom is sick (not fair)!

Cute BTS pictures! I love that picture of Makenna with her arm around Carter - they really are close! Will be anxious for updates of how school is progressing once they are settled in. It's such a huge thing!

How exciting!!! Miss M. is too sweet in that pic, giving C a hug!

I love all your BTS ideas!

Hope you feel better soon (so you can watch more Olympics, right?).

Glad all went well. Did Carter like it even though he was exhausted? I think it's so sweet that M just hugged him so long. So sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon!

A whole new world for you and school. I remember an older mother (probably my age now) telling me when Morgan was 2 months "Just cherish these moments because time flies by and they grow up so fast!" I can't believe that Carter & Brinley are in Kindy. This is my fourth Kindergartener and it still doesn't get any easier! M looks like a big girl in that outfit!

I just have to say I would DIE at the idea of all day kindergarten. I am HATING all day school, LOL. Seriously...I think it's too much. That said though, your pictures are adorable and the one of M telling C goodbye is so precious. They are so cute.

O.K., do M and C look like you and Allen at this age? I totally see the two of you in them respectively. What a big day! I remember last year during the first week of school kids falling asleep on the bus on the way home, all tuckered out.
