Happy to You!

Today is Makenna's 2nd birthday! I can hardly believe it, time has flown! She is so cute and walks around singing the happy birthday song but sings it "Happy to You." Funny.

Last night, Allen and I were remembering the night before she was born two years ago. Since I had such a horrible labor/delivery with Carter, I shopped around for a doctor who I knew would induce me before my due date with M. We knew exactly when she would be born. The night before my induction we were both SO emotional. We laid in bed and cried that our family of 3 was about to become a family of 4. We worried so much about Carter and how he would react to the new person in our lives. We even pulled him into bed with us where he slept for most of the night.

The next morning we dropped Carter off with some friends and went to the hospital. They started my pitocin drip by about noon and we were prepared for the long haul (like 24 hours with C). Makenna was born at 6:17 p.m. after only 2 pushes. It was a glorious second birthing experience. Over and over again we both thanked my doctor for the easy birth experience. She just laughed at us and commented that my first must have been horrible, for us to be so grateful for the second experience. We snuck Carter into the delivery room shortly after the birth and he immediately loved on Makenna (however, when we were leaving the hospital, he kept saying "bye-bye baby" expecting her to stay at the hospital).

Makenna is a joy to have in our family. She has the sweetest temperament and quite the spark of mischievousness in her. She stayed a baby for a long time, not crawling until 10 months and not walking until 16 months! She did talk early and always amazes us with the words she knows. She is also a little mimic. She has mimicked us from a very early age and we realize she must watch us carefully. She loves to hang out in the bathroom with me while I get ready for the day. She puts in her "contacts," applies her moisturizer and puts on her makeup. She loves to brush her teeth and have her hair done. She is in love with her brother and wants to be by his side all day long, every day. She really misses him while he's at school. She LOVES to be held and will cry and hang on my leg until I pick her up. She loves to read books and will sit on our laps and read for as long as we let her. She likes to put together puzzles, play in the kitchen sink (her first love), jump on the trampoline if a parent is present, go to the park, play kitchen, babies and dress up. She has most everyone we know wrapped around her little finger with her charming personality and sparkle.

We love our little Makenna and cannot imagine life without her in our family!

(This was her on Sunday, we had a little birthday party with my sister and her family while they were up here. The top picture is of her this morning. She has been begging for a bike for a long time and always wants to ride on Carter's. Notice the cute bday shirt my mom made for her!)
