Some things my mama taught me and words I live by

There is a blog I read of someone who shall remain nameless. She does not know I read her blog and I don't know her personally so there is no way she is reading my blog. So I feel like I can put this on here. Anyway, last week she blogged about her husband. And she totally and completely ripped him a new one. She said scathing, horrible things about him. I just felt terrible after I read it. I cannot imagine saying those kinds of things about my husband to anyone, much less the greater blogging/internet community. I've been thinking about it all week. It has really made me reflect on a piece of advice that my mom gave me very early in my marriage. She told me about a time in her life when some of her close friends would get together and belittle their husbands to eachother. She told me to never, ever participate in any conversation that belittled Allen. And I really feel like I have taken this advice to heart and never criticize him to anyone. The girl did eventually give a half hearted apology on her blog, but only after her husband bought her something nice for Valentines day. Pathetic. I think she should hide under a rock in shame.

Lots and lots of people ask me both on this blog and in my personal life how I get so much accomplished. So I've been thinking about that a lot lately too. My mom taught me two things about accomplishing things (she is the QUEEN of productivity):
1. Do it right the first time
2. Work fast
So that is part of how I get a lot done. Another thing I try to follow is that if a task takes less than two minutes and I have the time right then, I complete the task. If I walk by a mirror that needs to be cleaned, I clean the mirror, etc. I also think about this quote a lot and these are the words I live by:

"It's a sad day when you find out that it's not an accident or time or fortune but just yourself that keeps things from you." -Lillian Hellman

I never want to look back on my life and wish I had done things differently. I also think we make time for the things that we really want to make time for. I have a few big life goals that I'm in the process of completing. Some big changes coming down the pike for me in the relative near future. I am both excited and nervous about them but not quite ready to share the details yet! Anyway, I'm all about seizing the day and every opportunity that life throws at you! Happy productivity!

Monique, you are an inspiration to us all! : ) Thank you for sharing! I'm now looking at my workload with a new perspective...smarter, not harder.
