Last month a gal in my ward organized a Book of Mormon exchange. She chose 37 topics/stories from the BoM and had women in the ward sign up for one of the topics. Then, our job was to summarize the story on a 1/2 sheet of paper (including the scripture references), have it laminated and include some kind of visual representation of the story. We made 37 copies of our story/visual aid packet and turned them in to her.
Last night a few of us got together to put the packets together. I am giddy with excitement over the awesome things I came away with. This is much, much easier and less time consuming than the Family Home Evening packets I have done in the past. The BoM stories can be used for FHE or family scripture time or even in lessons.
People used a variety of resources: some made homemade items, others were store purchased, some elaborate and some very simple. In any case, I cannot wait to use this resource with my family. I also love that she chose some lesser known stories so our kids can get to know ALL the stories in the BoM. Here are a few pictures I took to give you a better idea:
The entire haul (minus the two packets I could not pry from M's hands)
Pictures of a few of my favorite packets:
Ammon:
The brass plates (my friend and her husband cut out and routed all the wood and even put metal rings in it and ancient writing on each one - a lot of work and so awesome):The people of Ammon (this included a baggie with a plastic indian, plastic sword and dirt to "bury" the sword in):
Anyway, I just wanted to share this idea so others can give it a try in their wards. This was EASY to put together (maybe 2 hours of my time total) and inexpensive. If you'd like a list of topics, leave a comment or shoot me an email. This could easily be adapted for Bible stories too and I'm hoping we do another round of packets to do some Bible stories.
Happy Teaching the Gospel!

I would LOVE a list of the stories/ideas for the packets!! I totally lack when it comes to BoM stories!! This would be great to do...while my kids are still young and over zealous about FHE! ;o)

Very cool. Did you guys exchange the digital versions of the stories? It would be so cool to print these out and do them myself.
This IS awesome! I'd love a list of the stories too... What a great idea! Thank you for sharing!

Very cool idea! I'm brainstorming how to make it work for books of the Bible - my Sunday school class would love something like this!
I think this is the greatest. I wanted to start a FHE lesson group but I think we should do this. Please email me the list of stories. Thanks a ton.

This is awesome! I've done an FHE packet exchange, and it was very time intensive. I'd love the list too.
I'm grateful that you're so grateful to have FHE packets put together. Any amount of work for such a good project is worth it. With so much to counter our good intentions and hopes, everything you can do to keep those little ones close and well fed with Gospel stories and experiencesis worthy of you great efforts! I love you for being so good!
Mom
i would love them. don't know when i'll do them, but would love to. if you get the chance, send them my way.
What a great idea! I'd also love a list. I know mine won't turn out as cute, but that's ok. ;)
Ok girls, I sent you a list of the topics. Let me know if you don't receive it. Mindy, we did not exchange the summaries digitally - sorry. That is a really good idea. We are doing a New Testament exchange after the first of the year so I will share more then!!
Hi Monique- remember me? I've been lurking on your blog for a while now, lol. Congrats on baby number 3 and Carter and Makenna are cute as buttons and so big. Anyways, this is so fabulous. I love the idea. Would it be possible to get the list too?
